The LG Twins and Doosan Bears of professional baseball will use Jamsil Main Stadium as their home stadium from 2027 to 2031.
"We will use Jamsil Main Stadium as an alternative venue while building a new domed stadium on the site of Jamsil Baseball Stadium," the Seoul Metropolitan Government said on Wednesday. As a result, LG and Doosan will use Jamsil Main Stadium, which is located right next to Jamsil Baseball Stadium, for five seasons starting in 2027.
The grandstands at Jamsil Main Stadium will be constructed with 18,000 seats on the first and second floors. During the post-season, the city plans to expand the venue to more than 30,000 seats by opening the third-floor spectators' seats. The city government will replace the track and soccer fields at Jamsil Main Stadium with fields in accordance with the KBO League manual, and remodel dugouts and player support areas. The city government, the Korea Baseball Organization, and the two teams discussed alternative baseball stadiums after a total of five task force meetings, on-site inspections, and working-level discussions since October last year.
LG, Doosan and KBO are welcoming the decision. Initially, the decision included the use of Mokdong Baseball Stadium and Gocheok Sky Dome as well as other stadiums around the Seoul metropolitan area in addition to Jamsil Main Stadium. Mokdong Baseball Stadium, which is adjacent to a residential area, is not suitable for holding professional baseball games due to flooding of complaints about noise and lighting. In the case of other stadiums, it is inevitable to live in two rooms.
"The team welcomed the decision as it considered the use of Jamsil Main Stadium as an optimal alternative," said an LG official. "The team's position was that Jamsil Main Stadium should be used unconditionally. The symbolism of Jamsil has continued as well," said an LG official. The KBO also said that there was no other suitable venue as an alternative venue other than Jamsil Main Stadium.
The size of 18,000 seats in the stands is also a result of the team's proposal. The Seoul Metropolitan Government has planned to seat up to 13,000 people considering safety. The size of the stands is directly related to fan service and team profits. As of the first half of this season, LG had 18,604 home spectators and Doosan had 17,449. Both teams said, "The size of spectators has increased compared to what we discussed for the first time. I think the Seoul Metropolitan Government has given consideration to the team. Besides this, I thank the city for gathering a lot of opinions from the team."
It is expected to cost about 30 billion won to 40 billion won to create an alternative stadium. There was also a plan for the club to take on some of the amount, but the Seoul Metropolitan Government decided to take responsibility for it.
Safety is the most important factor to be considered during the discussion. When the development project is carried out as an international exchange complex (MICE), massive construction will take place around Jamsil Main Stadium. There are concerns about safety accidents if the routes are limited and a large crowd gathers at the same time at the start and end of the game. The Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to prepare access roads to the east and west, and to repair sidewalks and roadways. The expansion of the stands will also be decided through this process.
"The Seoul Metropolitan Government held a safety advisory meeting and inspected movement simulation. All decisions were made after safety was prepared," said an LG official. 토토사이트 순위 "Jamsil Main Stadium is used as an alternative ballpark, but we will put top priority on public safety as it can be called temporary. We will focus on the convenience of visitors and create (alternative ballpark)," Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon said.
